History and Background

Dennis established The Law Office of Dennis Dean Smejkal, P.A. because he is dedicated to helping victims injured in the workplace. Dennis understand the workers’ compensation system and what to expect when filing a claim.

Before starting his own firm, he attended the Brevard County Public School system. After three years in the U.S. Navy, Dennis attended Brevard Community College while in the U.S. Navy Reserve. He then graduated from the University of Florida in 1982, then Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University in 1987. Dennis began representing injured workers in the law firm of Hurt & Parrish, P.A., from 1988 to 1993. He was then a partner at the law firm of Parrish & Smejkal, P.A., from 1993 to 2008.

Dennis Smejkal enjoys an AV rating, the highest rating assigned to a lawyer by the Martindale-Hubbell, he describes himself as a surfer/standup paddle boarder, that earns his living representing injured workers. He has been selected into the Best Lawyers in America since 2005, in the Florida Super Lawyers since 2007, and in Orlando, The City’s Magazines Top Lawyers since 2005. He was a member of The Florida Bar’s Workers’ Compensation Section Executive Counsel from 1991 to 2006 and was Chair of the Section (2003-2004), then selected to Emeritus status in 2007. He was the chairman of the Workers’ Compensation Section of the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers twice. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Florida Workers’ Advocates from 1990 to 2018. He is admitted to the Florida Bar in 1987 and was the U.S. District Court, Middle District of Florida in 1993.

After five (5) years in the U.S. Navy and Naval Reserve he attended the University of Florida where he graduated in 1982. He then attended Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University, graduating in 1987. Dennis began representing injured workers in the law firm of Hurt & Parrish, P.A., where he made partner in 1990. In 1993, he was a founding partner of Parrish & Smejkal, P.A. which existed until 2008, when with his long time secretary/paralegal Trish Outlaw, he established his current firm, The Law Office of Dennis Dean Smejkal, P.A. located in Orlando, Florida. Although he represents injured workers state wide, his practice is primarily concentrated in Central Florida.
